iOS 18 Activation Issues: A Quick Fix Guide
Apple's iOS 18 introduced massive improvements to the Cellular management interface, but some users have reported getting stuck on the "Activating..." screen when scanning a travel eSIM QR code. Here is how to fix it instantly.
1. Check Your Stable WiFi Connection
eSIM profiles require a surprisingly stable internet connection to download from the SM-DP+ server. If you are using airport WiFi, it might be blocking the port required for activation. Switch to a secure, private network or use a hotspot from a friend.
2. Toggle Airplane Mode
Sometimes the iPhone's baseband processor needs a soft reset. Turn on Airplane Mode for 10 seconds, then turn it off. This forces the device to re-register on the local cellular network.
3. Check if Data Roaming is ON
Go to Settings > Cellular > [Your New eSIM] and ensure the Data Roaming toggle is turned ON. Most travel eSIMs require roaming to connect to partner networks in the destination country.
4. Delete and Re-scan? (WARNING)
NEVER delete your eSIM profile unless explicitly instructed by customer support. Most eSIM QR codes can only be scanned exactly once. If you delete an unactivated eSIM, you will likely lose it forever.
